PTO Elections

In the next couple of weeks nomination fliers will be going out for the PTO board.  All positions are available.  If you would like to nominate yourself or someone you love, admire, or just think would do a fabulous job, please fill out the paper and return it to the office or PTO box.  You may also post your nomination here or email us at stdavidpto@yahoo.com

Remember that with the help of many parents the jobs associated with PTO are fun and not particularly stressful.  Alone we all are missing hair and have extra wrinkles by the end of the year.  Please help us stop at least one cause of premature aging.

Elections will be the first Thursday in May at 7:45am in the conference room.  Hope to see you there!

Gaslight Theater Tickets

Ok, so I started strong and have continued to be a slacker for the majority of the year- my apologies.

The PTO is selling Gaslight Theater tickets for $18 each.  A portion of the sale will go to the PTO.  We are hoping to be able to raise enough money to get curtains for the MPR stage.

Teachers’ School Supply Drive

As we all know, this year supplies for classrooms are VERY limited.  To help out we are having a school supply drive.  Drop off boxes are available at the performances and in the office.  Some of the items needed are:

Glue Sticks

Kleenex

Copy paper (lots and lots)

Dry Erase markers (esp black)

Scotch Tape

Brad Fasteners

Crayola Washable Markers

Fat Pencils with erasers

Red Pens

November 5, 2009 PTO Meeting

Our PTO meeting was held at 7:30 am in the conference room.  In attendence were Shannon Thola, Billie Bright, Michelle Clay, Shella Brubaker, Daina Valenzuela, and Danielle Towne.

Old Business:

Trunk 0r Treat was a fun success.  We didn’t make as much money as in years past, but everyone had fun.  We made $291 plus $50 in cash donations from businesses.  Those who saw the Assylum performance by the theatre class and STUGO thought it was a good addition, but we thought that next year it should be done the night before/after and tickets should be presold

We reached our goal of 600 pounds of candy (which we all thought was plenty of candy for the evening) and therefore, the students earned their ice cream reward.  We decided that it should be handed out in individual cups at luch in the cafeteria by a representative of the PTO.

New Business:

We talked about the upcoming family movie night.  We decided that we would give each of the teachers some colorful paper that they could use to print off the perfect attendence coupons for their students.

On May 21st will be a Gaslight theatre performance that we will be selling tickets for.  Tickets will cost us approximately $14.50 and will be sold for $18.

On February 27th the Bike Rodeo (district sponsored) Jump for Heart (PE sponsored) and the Family Fun Run (PTO sponsored) will all be held.  We voted and decided that we will call it the “Cario Carnival”

A contest for the shirt design will be  held from Dec 1- Jan 6.  Any active PTO member can have their business card placed on the back for 1/2 the regular $50 cost.  Billie will work on taking care of the shirts, but WE STILL NEED SOMEONE TO BE THE FUN RUN CHAIRPERSON.

113 PTO t-shirts have been presold.  We will have extras which we will sell at other PTO events.

The Book Fair will be December 15-21.  Famliy night is currently planned for Dec 17 from 5-7:30.  We will have a “Coins only” drive in conjunction with the book fair and “One for Books”.

Our next meeting will be November 20, 2009 7pm in the library.

September 4th Meeting

PTO meeting was held at 7:30am in the conference room at the school.  Michelle Judd, Sarah Weitz, AnnaMarie Judd, Michelle Clay, Shannon Thola, Charlotte Burton, Shella Brubaker, and Billie Bright were in attendance.  Mark Goodman was helping with kids on the playground, so he was not in attendance.

Sarah Weitz reported that all the teachers had room parents.

Michelle Judd is going to check to see if all the elemenary teachers wanted to each provide a classroom booth.  The money they raise will go directly back to their classrooms.  Shella Brubaker thought it was a good idea.

For the December book fair Shella said that she would help.  Michelle Clay also said that she would be willing to help out by making calls and getting volunteers to work the book fair.

AnnaMarie Judd is going to look into some of the store fundraisers and see what we need to do to get money from some of the programs available such as at Safeway and Target.

Some of the other ideas of things the school need are nurse supplies.  We would really like to raise money for a rubberized track, but aren’t sure it’s feasable due to the high cost (as much as $100k or more) Mike McQueen (sp) in Benson was mentioned as a possible resourse for sound system help for the MPR.

Trunk or Treat was voted on and decided to be on Friday, October 30

Michelle Clay brought in samples of t-shirts from a company she works with.  We all really liked the modern looking design and the fact that they have femine cut t-shirts. We will need to order 5 dozen of each design (one for the girls and oen for the guys).  We are leaning towards selling them, but no definate decision was voted on.

We decided that our fundraising goal for this year is to raise money for “School Improvement”. We are keeping the goal general and will use the money for whatever needs may arise.

First Meeting of the Year

Our first meeting was held on August 29, 2009 in the school library. In attendence were Ammette Moore, Michele Judd, Michelle Clay, Daina Valenzuela, AnnaMarie Judd, Stephanie Preston, Shannon Thola, Del Thola, Billie Bright, and Mark Goodman.

Officers were elected (they are listed on the side of this blog) and the events for the first semester were discussed.  The events for this semester are The San Pedro Valley Fair, Trunk or Treat, and the December Book Fair. 

Shannon & Del Thola will co-chair the San Pedro Valley Fair. The Fair will be On September 19, 2009. We are going to look into having some of the High School students help out at the fair and perhaps the Trunk or Treat also.

Annete Moore volunteered to be the chairperson for the Trunk or Treat with the help of Stephanie Preston. The Trunk or Treat will be Friday, October 30, 2009.

We are still looking for someone to be the chairperson for the December Book Fair.

We decided to set up an email address for better communications and a blog to help parents be more active even if they are not able to attend regular PTO meetings. The PTO email address is stdavidpto@yahoo.com .  We are also hoping to get a link for the PTO put on the school’s website.

Meetings will be held at 7:30am on the first Thursday of the month in the Conference room (unless otherwise noted).  The first meeting will be this Thursday, September 3, 2009. 

We also discuss some of the things we would like to raise money for.  Some of the sugestions were: water faucets for the school, especially at the playgrounds, restrooms for the playground and/or track, railing at the top of the hill, shade for the little kids playgrounds, and upgrades for the MPR including curtains, sound system and lighting.  These suggestions will become more focused as the year goes on.

There will be a flier going out this week with places for volunteering including an option for donating money and products.
